MetalCoat

Surface Preparation

The surface to be coated should be clean and free from contamination.  Rust , mill scale, oxide deposits on mild steel surfaces should be completely removed either by mechanically abrading the surface or through abrasive blast clean technique.  Also , the substrate should be free from dew as it directly relates to premature paint failure.

A scotch brite pad can be employed to mechanically abrade GI and Aluminium surfaces, if required. Care should be taken to avoid removal of excess zinc during surface preparation of GI.

Application

Mix the base thoroughly prior to mixing with the hardener. Avoid applying in direct sunlight or when the humidity is very high. 

  1. Degreased Mild Steel
    Apply 2 coats of Epoxy Zinc phosphate primer grey with an interval of 16 hrs between subsequent coats.  Sanding of the first coat should be done with Emery Paper No. 220 and Emery Paper No. 400 can be used for the second coat.
    Epoxy Putty can be used to rectify any minor undulations . The putty should be used on the first coat of Epoxy Zinc phosphate primer grey.
    Sanding of the putty should be done with Emery No.220 after 14 - 16 hours of drying , followed by the second coat of  Epoxy Zinc phosphate primer grey.
    Apply one coat of Metalcoat primer surfacer . After 10 – 12 hrs of drying sand using Emery Paper No. 400.
    Apply 2 coats of the required MetalCoat glossy / matt  shade with an interval of 8 hrs between each coat. Sand the first coat with Emery Paper No.600 In case of metallic glossy finishes, apply one coat of the required metallic shade followed by one coat of MetalCoat Glossy clear after an interval of 25 – 30 minutes. For metallic matt  finishes, the clear coat  is not required
  2. Galvanised Iron
    Apply one coat of MetalCoat Etch Primer at a DFT of around 10 microns. After 1 hr and within 2 hrs apply 1 coat of Epoxy Zinc phosphate primer grey followed by one coat of Metalcoat primer surfacer with an interval of 16 hrs between subsequent coats.
    Sanding of Epoxy Zinc phosphate primer grey should be done with Emery Paper No. 220.
    Metalcoat primer surfacer shall be subjected to sanding after 10 – 12 hrs of drying using Emery Paper No. 400.
    Epoxy Putty can be used to rectify any minor undulations . The putty should be used on the first coat of Epoxy Zinc phosphate primer grey.
    Sanding of the putty should be done with Emery No.220 after 14 – 16 hours of drying.

    Sanding of the first coat should be done with Emery Paper No. 220 and Emery Paper No. 400 can be used for the second coat.

  4. PP
    Apply one coat of PP  Primer . After 5 – 10 minutes, apply 2 coats of the required MetalCoat glossy / matt  shade with an interval of 8 hrs between each coat. Sand the first coat with Emery Paper No.600
  5. ABS
    Wipe the substrate thoroughly with IPA and apply 2 coats of the required MetalCoat glossy / matt shade with an interval of 8 hrs between each coat. Sand the first coat with Emery Paper No.600

MetalCoat ETCH Primer

Surface Preparation

Application

Mix the base thoroughly  prior to the addition of the activator ( Part B). After mixing the base and the activator in the recommended ratio, allow the mix to stand for  20 minutes. Avoid applying in direct sunlight or when the humidity is very high. 

  1. Galvanised Iron & Aluminium
    Subject the surface thoroughly to solvent degreasing  prior to primer application. Apply one coat of MetalCoat Etch Primer at a DFT of around 5 - 10 microns. 
  2. GI
    After 1 hr and within 2 hrs apply 1 coat of Epoxy Zinc phosphate primer grey followed by one coat of Metalcoat primer surfacer with an interval of 16 hrs between subsequent coats.
    Sanding of Epoxy Zinc phosphate primer grey should be done with Emery Paper No. 220. Metalcoat primer surfacer shall be subjected to sanding after 12 – 14 hrs of drying using Emery Paper No. 400.
  3. Aluminium
    After 1 hr and within 2 hrs apply 2 coats of  Metalcoat primer surfacer with an interval of 12- 14 hrs between subsequent coats.
    Sanding of the first coat should be done with Emery Paper No. 220 and Emery Paper No. 400 can be used for the second coat.
